Sun Life has decided to permanently discontinue the Maxwell Health platform effective July 1, 2026, with no option for extension.
The benefits administration landscape has evolved, with employers and brokers increasingly seeking all-in-one platforms or partnerships to manage benefits, HR, and payroll. In response, we're shifting our focus towards building stronger connections with industry-leading platforms to better serve your needs. What does this mean for you?
Rest assured, all your existing insurance coverage with Sun Life and other providers will remain in force. You'll continue to have access to the Maxwell Health platform until you transition to a new BenTech platform or until July 1, 2026, whichever comes first.
- What steps need to be taken to migrate off the Maxwell Health platform?
In anticipation of a seamless transition off the platform, the support team will reach out to every transitioning employer upon notification of their termination. We will schedule a walkthrough of transitional tasks with the main administrator. While we prefer to do this 30-60 days before the client's access ends, we are flexible and can accommodate various timelines. Our goal is to facilitate an effortless transition, regardless of the notice period.
The walkthrough will cover transitional tasks across the following areas:

Reporting – including running the following reports:
- Demographic Census Report
- Cost and Coverage Report
- Coverage Report Beneficiaries – if beneficiary information was collected in the portal
- COBRA Qualifying Event
- Initial COBRA Rights
- Termination Report
- ACA File, found under the ACA Tab
- Forms, if there are forms in the portal
- Billing
- EDI
- Integrations
Our goal is to meet with every client to provide valuable information for a smooth and successful transition. The Maxwell migration form should be used to communicate key information about the transition to Sun Life.
- What’s the best date to execute the migration?
We will want to consider timing that would have the least impact on the Client experience. We recommend transitioning:
At least two months before any enrollment events.
At least two months before adding lines of coverage or switching to a new carrier.
- Will Sun Life help me (broker) and my Client move to or build a new platform?
Sun Life will have a designated team that will help answer questions about migrating your business to one of our BenTech partner platforms. The team will help you access the data you may need to implement your Client on a new platform. We will not be staffed to help you build a new platform.
