If your company uses both Maxwell Health and BambooHR, you’ve already seen how technology helps you as you administer your benefits and manage your employee information. And for those of you who currently use Maxwell’s BambooHR 180° API integration, streamlining the typical back-and-forth of data entry needed to keep systems in sync has likely increased your team’s productivity as well.
Introducing an upgraded integration with BambooHR
We wanted to let you know that Maxwell has recently upgraded our existing BambooHR integration to keep the integration running smoothly and provide some adjustments to help you tailor your setup. We’ve upgraded all existing users automatically and -- so as not to disrupt your existing workflow -- your integration setup and the day-to-day background sync experience will remain the same.
However, we hope the enhancements we’ve been able to include in this upgrade will help us support additional client needs and continue to provide a smooth experience when working with this integration in the future.
Here’s a quick overview of some of the enhancements we’re releasing with this upgrade:
- New integration view
- New settings that include options to filter employees from the integration
- New ability to turn off the salary sync option
- Enhancements to how we match employees and sync information
- Better support for weekly and monthly salary options
You can learn more about these enhancements below.

New settings that include options to filter employees from the integration
If your integration is set up and active, you’ll now see your Sync Configuration Details that include the ongoing sync settings for your BambooHR integration. These have already been set up for you based on your current integration setup. However, you now have the ability to adjust these settings going forward if needed.
If an employee isn't able to sync correctly, a failure notification will let the Admin know they need to adjust information for that employee for them to sync or users can also choose to filter these employees if they do not need to sync for benefits enrollment.

New ability to turn off the salary sync option
Most employers will choose to sync salaries from BambooHR to Maxwell. However, if you don’t offer salary-based benefits or you offer salary-based benefits that use a salary calculation other than the employee’s annual gross salary, you can opt to select “Do not sync salary data”.

Enhancements to how we match employees and sync information
Adjusting how we match employees between systems should help you avoid issues like duplicate employees between systems.
Employees synced through this integration are now matched based on one of the following:
- BambooHR Employee ID
- Social Security Number (SSN)
- If neither BambooHR Employee ID nor SSN exist in Maxwell, First Name, Last Name, and Date of Birth will be used to match employees
Better support for weekly and monthly salary options
With the upgrade, we aim to better support weekly and monthly salary options for employees who sync information. Maxwell captures the Pay Rate field from BambooHR to populate the Salary field in Maxwell and will annualize the Pay Rate using standard calculations based on the pay type.
